Zibby’s Spooky Book Recommendations

Earlier this month, Zibby visited Good Day DC to discuss her favorite spooky books. Watch the clip below and read on to see her list of recommendations to get in the Halloween spirit!

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Zibby says: This is a story about a “reluctant witch” who is called on to help three aspiring witches “hone their craft.” This novel has “love and witches and spookiness and all the ingredients for a fabulous Halloween read.”

Playing the Witch Card by KJ Dell’Antonia

Zibby says: This is a story about a girl who goes back to her grandmother’s bakery and, despite her best efforts to resist, gets involved in her grandmother’s tarot card ”business”: it’s about “family and legacy and it’s fabulous!”

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

Zibby says: For 200 years the Owen sisters have been dying to leave their town after being scapegoated and believed to be witches; “yet something brings them back, perhaps by magic!”

Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang

Zibby says: This is a story about a pianist who, after an accident, gets a job at a toxic beauty company, which reveals some “very sinister things,” landing this book a spot on this list.

Piñata by Leopoldo Gout

Zibby says: A woman named Carmen goes to Mexico, where she finds artifacts that follow her back home, unleashing a very scary series of events: “This is total horror… Watch out, brace yourself.”
