Zibby’s Bookshop Is Officially Open for Business!
Cofounders Sherri Puzey, Zibby Owens, and Diana Tramontano (from L-R)
Over the last couple of days (after the official launch of Zibby’s Bookshop last weekend) I’ve been standing in my kitchen at midnight rereading this insane and wonderful piece in the Los Angeles Times by Mary McNamara (thanks to Boris Kachka and Paul Bogaards).
I don’t know how celebrities and other high-profile people feel when things like this happen, but for me, this level of recognition is new and mind-boggling.
The Los Angeles Times! And such a long, beautiful piece that encapsulates and recognizes the past five years of my incessant, passionate work that has largely happened sitting alone in my office on Zoom and, more recently, in my dining room with members of my team, like Diana Tramontano and Sherri Puzey, but also our beloved Publisher Anne Messitte, Executive Editor Kathleen Harris, and the 16 other full-time people.
I am floored. My favorite line (well, one of them) is when Mary explains that I’m not a book critic but a booster. Also, the verb formation: “to Zibbify a book.”
I guess I should play it cool…but that’s so not me. Which, perhaps, is why all of this good stuff is happening. For five years (but really since I published my first article when I was 14), I’ve been sharing my soul with the world in an attempt to make others feel seen and understood — and to cope with my own feelings.
I am the ultimate open book(fluencer!). And I am honored that my innermost thoughts, my desire to help others by connecting, my intense love of books, my reverence for authors, and my creative business ideas have united to form this emotion-based enterprise. I don’t believe in corporate. I believe in real.
Thank you, Los Angeles Times, Mary, Boris, Paul, everyone. This is life-changing.
