5 Can’t Miss New Movies Based on Books

Seeing your favorite book come to life on the big screen is one of the more exciting parts about being a modern reader. We’ve pulled together a list of five amazing new book-to-film adaptations that we’ve either seen and loved, or can’t wait to watch. Which will you watch first? 

1. Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)

Based on Killers of the Flower Moon (2017) by David Grann

In Martin Scorsese’s latest box office blockbuster, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone (among other A-list cast members) bring to life this true story first detailed in David Grann’s 2017 book of the same name. One of the most talked about films of the year, Killers of the Flower Moon is part love story, part Western, and part crime thriller, so there’s something here for everyone!

2. Happiness for Beginners (2023)

Based on Happiness for Beginners (2015) by Katherine Center

Newly divorced, Helen Carpenter can’t seem to find her way back to her old self. That is, until her little brother persuades her to sign up for an adult wilderness survival camp. While hiking in the Appalachian Mountains, Helen finds a second shot at love and a new sense of self. Endearing, lighthearted, and charming, this romantic comedy is the perfect pick-me-up!

3. Dumb Money (2023)

Based on The Antisocial Network (2021) by Ben Mezrich

With another all-star cast (Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Seth Rogen, America Ferrera and more), Dumb Money tells the true story of the 2021 GameStop short squeeze, orchestrated by YouTube personality and frequent Reddit user Keith Gill. Equal parts comedy and drama, Dumb Money will keep you entertained from opening to closing credits.

4. Love At First Sight (2023) 

Based on The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight (2011) by Jennifer E. Smith

Love At First Sight brings Jennifer E. Smith’s 2011 rom-com novel to the screen. Two young travelers meet in the airport, are coincidentally seated next to each other on their international flight, and fall in love. But when they part ways after landing, it seems their brief love story has come to an end. But has it? Watch this hopeful, heartwarming film to find out!

5. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023)

One of the most anticipated prequel films of our time is almost here! The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the prequel to The Hunger Games phenomenon, hits theaters on November 17, 2023! Set 64 years before the events of the first book and film in the series, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is the villain origin story of Cornelius Snow, the tyrannical Panem president who rules during the events of the trilogy. We can’t wait to see another Hunger Games hit brought to life!
