14 Authors Share What They’re Grateful For This Holiday Season

We’re all thankful for something these days. But what about our author friends?! Here’s what a few of them had to say. How about you?

1. Jeff Hoffman, author of Other People’s Children

I’m grateful that my second novel, Like It Never Happened is working its way toward publication in the spring. I’m grateful for my friends who feed me energy and make me laugh. But mostly, I’m grateful that my family, with all its joyful messiness, will be together on Thanksgiving—a blessing that some past holidays with empty seats at the table have taught me to cherish.

2. Stacy Igel, author of Embracing the Calm in the Chaos

I am grateful for my new author book journey and all the support since pre-orders began. I am grateful for all my friends, family, colleagues, brand community, and new friends who came out to support and are still supporting me on book tour, and who have bought my book and reviewed my book. I am thankful for you, Zibby, and the amazing collaborations we have done this year from Los Angeles to Sag Harbor. I am grateful for my husband and my son and new doggie.

3. Davon Loeb, author of The In-Betweens

5. Ryan Rae Harbuck, author of When I Grow Up I Want To Be A Chair

I’m grateful to have found my voice as a writer, focusing on the need for disability rep in literature— for young and old alike.

I’m also grateful to have hand surgery at the beginning of the New Year to allow me to have more function and feeling. I need to keep those typing hands and wheelchair pushing hands strong!

6. Julie Vick Harber, author of Babies Don’t Make Small Talk (So Why Should I?)

I am grateful to have a book out in the world and to have read many great books this year. I'm also grateful that we are eating out for Thanksgiving this year so that I don't have to cook or clean that day!

7. Cindy Chupack, author of We Waited For You

I'm grateful to know so many writers -- they are the best, funniest, smartest, most intuitive and empathetic people I know. And I'm grateful to Meryl Streep for reading Tom Lake to me. That Ann Patchett audiobook is a masterclass in writing and acting.

8. Caroline Leavitt, author of With Or Without You

I am so grateful for my wise, silly husband (we are celebrating 30 years together); so grateful for my son (I got pregnant in my 40s!), my friends, my writing work– and for people like you, Zibby, who show us how to open our hearts every day. I'm reading the absolutely gorgeous My Life In Paper: Adventures in Ephemera by Beth Kephart for the second time—even as I go through my own cache of old letters, menus, journals!

I'm grateful that after a lot of medical issues my husband (of 27 years) is recovering and back to teaching at NYU. And after too many rejections, I have two books out in November, American Shield (Counterpoint) and Barbie (Assouline). And grateful for all of my amazing relatives, friends, shrinks, students and colleagues like Zibby for all of her help and support!
